As many know the entire state of California has been facing many problems but one of the most glaring problems they have faced is the states lack of affordable housing. This is something that I have touched on in one of my other blog posts. But I have never dove into how they plan to combat this problem with solutions from the legislture. One such solution was recently signed into place and that solution is SB 9.
Now what is SB 9? Well is SB 9 is California's attempt to get rid of the single family housing designation that has contributed to the housing shortage. Under SB 9 now the state is shifted from the suburban sprawl model that was designated for single family housing only. It would essentially limiting this zoning tag all together. With the removal of single family housing, now you can allocate more units on a property causing land owners the ability to maximize property space to produce more housing units with less land. As this is a recent passage we have not seen the benefits yet but over time they will be shown. This will help stem a growing issue in the Golden State.
